Privacy Policy

This policy explains how personal information is handled at NotaryByLawyer.ca and in the practice it describes. Notary By Lawyer is the trade name of Syed Zain Ali, Barrister and Solicitor, Notary Public and Commissioner for Taking Affidavits, licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. Personal information is handled in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law and the professional obligations of an Ontario lawyer, including duties of confidentiality that in many respects exceed statutory privacy requirements.
What information is collected?
Information you provide when booking or inquiring: name, phone, email, appointment details and any documents you choose to send in advance. Information collected at appointments: the identification details the law requires a notary or commissioner to verify, and records of the notarial or commissioning acts performed. Website data: standard analytics such as pages visited and device type, collected through cookies you can decline or clear; the site does not sell visitor data or run third-party advertising.
How is it used?
To respond to inquiries, deliver and document the services you request, satisfy record-keeping obligations that apply to notaries, commissioners and lawyers, process payment, and, only if you opt in, send service updates. Information is never sold. It is shared only with service providers needed to operate the practice, such as the booking and payment platforms named at checkout, or where law or regulation requires disclosure.
How long is it kept?
Notarial and commissioning records, including the register of acts performed, are retained for the periods professional obligations require, which are measured in years. Routine inquiry emails that do not become appointments are deleted on a rolling basis. Payment card data is processed by the payment provider and is not stored by this practice.
Your choices and rights
You may ask what information is held about you, request corrections, and withdraw consent to non-essential uses at any time by writing to info@notarybylawyer.ca. Requests are answered within thirty days. Note that records the law requires a notary to keep cannot be deleted on request during their mandatory retention period.
